The standard is intended for all panic bolt, push bar and touch bar devices which will be used in any environment open to members of the public who will have no prior knowledge of the exit device. Panic bolts and push bars must be distinctive from emergency exit devices by being able to offer "safe and effective escape through a doorway with minimum effort and without prior knowledge of operation"
